The Dental Follow-Up

Well, we went to the pediatric dentist today. Maggie adored the waiting room--toys galore and a little play room with a t.v.

But then she had to actually see the dentist. She lost it. I had to hold her on my lap and pin her arms while the dentist checked her teeth. We'd taken her in because she'd bumped her front teeth and they were looking a little discolored. Well, everything looked okay--no infection.

But.

But her pacifier habit was doing some damage. Darn it. The pediatrician had assured me that it was still okay. His stats must have been off. The dentist said the binky had to go. Anyway, when we got to the car I hid her 2 binkies that were in the car seat. When we got home I hid 3 more binkies. I've been finding and hiding them all day.

So, it's been rough with Maggie whining and crying for her constant companions.

Please tell me tomorrow will be better.

Sadly.....I had two of my brood at the dentist today too only the one who was kicking and screaming was 13!!! Took 45 flippin' minutes to get that kid so he'd let the dentist put a needle in his mouth to numb it up.......he finally opened his trap (other than to scream) when his dad pulled out the last resort before tying him to the chair......bribery. Thankfully, it worked.

In three days, it will be better. I wonder why Kris wants to work with crazy little kids?? Megs, it will be better. I promise. But it's going to be a tough road for a while, while they are all so young. Hold on. Hold on. It's worth it.

Oh Megan... it will get better! The binky fairy just visited us and Billy was totally against us going cold turkey. Needless to say, it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it was going to be. It was probably one day of H E double hockey sticks, but she is FINE. I would say 3 days. Tops. Good luck!

Hey, Andrea's sister here. A friend of mine told me a trick that I stored away. She said she cut off the tops of her kids' binkies, which breaks the suction and so your kid gets his binkie but they soon give it up on there own because it's not the same feel. Just a thought. I've never tried it so I don't know if it works or not.

We stopped cold turkey, and it only took a few days - three or four. I was worried she would try to take her little brother's, but she never even tried. It is nice not to have to worry about hers anymore. Good luck!

Abbie was my only Binky child. We got her off of them at 1 year by cutting the tips off of all of them. When I gave it to her she would say, "Broken" and didn't want it. In two days she stopped crying for them because they were all broken.

Pacifiers are tough to get rid of. I had 2 of my 3 who loved them. When they were 2, we made a rule that they could only use them at naps. I figured that way they would want to nap as long as possible! :)

does your little princess like fairies? you could try telling her if she leaves her paci's in a bag for the paci fairy, she'll come get them for babies who don't have any. She might even leave her a surprise for it, like the tooth fairy? I know it's rough, hang in there :)

So Ella had her binky until she was almost 3! Just at night and to take naps but I finally decided it was time!

For a week I talked about the Binky Fairy and how she would come soon and bring her a big girl toy. By the end of the week Ella couldn't wait. She put her binky under her pillow (I had already gathered the ones around the house) and the next morning she woke up to Disney princess dress ups. She was soo excited. When it was time for naps she did ask for the binky but I just reminded her that she has a big girl toy now and the binky is with the Fairy. It didn't really sink in for a couple of days but every time she cried I just said we didn't have it and reminded her about her toy. It seemed to do the trick.

Best of luck!
