A Lesson in Pie Making

My Aunt Pam is a fine cook. And by fine I mean,  fiiine. As in, dang good. But the thing that I like the best about Pam's cooking is how much she likes doing it and sharing it with others. When Aunt Pam saw "learn to make pie" on my {30 before 30} list, she offered to help. She's a good person like that.

She invited me to come to the cooking demonstration she did for all the ladies in her ward at church. And she was adorable with her rubber gloves, plethora of pie making suplies, and wit. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting next to my cousin Elin during the class. Its funny, but growing up I didn't know my cousins very well. I was among the youngest cousins and the older ones were so cool I mostly sat in a shy stupor and watched them watch t.v. in Grandma's basement. Lame. But now that we're all grown up we have so much in common. Its wonderful. My cousins are even funnier than I am, I think. Which is remarkable because sometimes I think I'm really funny.

Anyway, after Pam's demonstration, Elin smuggled me a jar of  homemade apple pie filling and some of Pam's pie dough. So, I was able to whip up this adorable Halloween bat pie. I'm quite smitten with how it turned out. It was delicious.

Thanks Pam and Elin!

I think that's great. I love to bake, but I have never made a pie. It scares me!

What a cute pie! With a little practice, you, too, can be an expert. Actually, when I was preparing for that presentation I learned a lot more about making pies but ran out of time. It was fun to see what the girls and their mothers came up with that night. Great time.

I love your pie...and I'm sure after you try it once or twice you will be a pro, just like you are with everything else you do!
