Camping

On Friday we went on an overnight camping trip. I'll be honest and say I didn't expect the best. I'll be more honest and say I thought it was going to be horrible. I love camping, but I was fearful of taking our brood into the wilderness. Since they act like feral animals in polite society, I didn't know what they would do when taken into the wild. I imagined that the kids would be running around the tent all night refusing to sleep, a skunk would end up spraying the twins, and then to round out the evening there would be a bear attack.

Luckily, the children had a wonderful time. Maggie prounced proudly around our camp, throwing firewood into the fire and saying things like "Are we gonna live here?" and "I love our tent." The boys thought they were in marshmallow heaven and they got dirtier than I've ever seen them in my life. Which is saying something because they are always dirty. Dan and I just sat back and laughed at the kids for the entire trip. It was so much fun!

The camping trip was a success. It was basically free. And Maggie hasn't stopped praying since that Heavenly Father will let her go camping again. I think He will. I'm praying for that too, anyway.

Ah, yes, many's the time I've pitched a tent in the rain, in the Cascades or by the beach, over a rock or a tree root and slept there in a sleeping bag without an air mattress. Good times. Keep it up.
