Mom-cation

I was having one of those days. The kids were bouncing off the walls. Nap time lasted 20 minutes. I hadn't even been able to clean up the breakfast dishes. Or lunch. Or the smattering of cheerios on the carpet under the barstools. Because someone was always crying, or being held, or being changed, or being placed in time-out, or hitting someone else on the head with something. We tried playing in the backyard but the slide was too hot. We tried watching a movie but Coleman is obsessed with the TV's off button and will not be deterred from using it.

I was losing all sanity.

So I tossed the kids in the car and drove. All the while I wondered where I was going. We ended up at the Carl's Jr. Playland at 3:30 in the afternoon. We had the place to ourselves besides one hilarious little girl who kept my children entertained with her constant chatter: "And my name's Hannah and I'm 5; that's lots bigger than you. Come on! I'll show you the slide. Okay, now why are you following me around? Is it cause I know how to do this?"

I sat back and enjoyed a Diet Dr. Pepper, made a lovely arrangement of my children's cowboy boots on the table. And jammed to some soft rock hits from the early 90's. The best little vacation I've had in a long time.

You're a smart mom for knowing when to get out of the house!

Mais - you have given me ze idea! What you need is: 3 Walmart wire DOG CRATES. They are wonderful. They keep everyone together - and yet, so gloriously apart. Scoots likes to eat graham crackers in them (while the puppies jump around outside, mad with envy). You can even get a little DOG BED and put it in each. NAP TIME - safe and sound. And look how happy Mag looks inside that wire mesh. I am SO brilliant.

something I learned a long time ago... Carl's Jr. Playland is never as crowded as McDonalds... oh and Wednesday nights are free kids meals with adult purchase... tee hee.

I knew a woman who said she believed children should be rocked to sleep, and that's why she kept a box of rocks handy. I'm just sayin'...

YAY! I'm glad you did that. Stroke of genius. (And seriously Belinda would be "Hannah." She is just like that.)
