Local City Library, We Love You.

A few weeks ago, we accidentally went to library story time. I just wanted some books to give my brain something to think about, so I hauled the kids to the library. There were a lot of kids there--a million minivans parked out front. And all the kids were wearing identical backpacks that they took off and threw into the return box. Interesting.

Well, we plopped down on the floor with the other kids and Maggie sang and danced and listened and played all through the story hour. She was spellbound by it. I'd never seen her so well behaved in my life!

Then the kids got up and ran to the shelves that held the backpacks. Oh. You check these things out! The backpacks were filled with books and a related toy or two and a little lesson plan so Mom knows what to do with it. Genius. And you check it out for free.

Maggie now loves the library. She loves her little backpacks she checks out each week. She loves being a big girl at story hour with the other kids. In fact, last week when I decided just to drive through the book drop instead of going inside, Maggie cried and cried to go in. So we did. I mean seriously, how can you say no to a kid crying to go to the library? You can't--nor should you.

I already knew I loved our library, but now I really love it. I'd marry it if I could.

I see. Your one of THOSE moms that pile all 50 of their children in the car and tote them around town doing things for the childrens' enjoyment. One of THOSE moms that do kits and craft and teach your children complex mathematics and spelling. My kids consider themselves lucky if they get to go to that hideous tree at the mall or the McDonald's playland. I feel like I've done my job as a mother if my children are bathed and hear the story "goodnight moon" before bed. Thank you, one-of-THOSE-moms, for make me feel completely inadequate in my pathetic attempts once again.

I guess my mom was NOT "one of THOSE moms" because I miss spelled "your", left the "s" off of crafts, and wrote "make" instead of "making" all in one comment. I swear my brain has fallen out of my head. Or maybe I'm pregnant. Again. Wouldn't that just be a treat.

Wow can I move there! That sounds like my kind of checking out. I can barely handle 5 min. trying to find a book. Because either the kids are running loose, someone is screaming or some kind of chaos is reining. But this, this I could do.

I just took my youngest to story time today. She loves it! We go weekly (when we're not sick) and pick out lots of books. Each of my kids have their own little library bags that they decorated with puff paints. They love the adventures at the library!
