Oh What a Night!

Last night was one of the most sleepless I've ever had. Painful. The boys were so fussy we could not settle them down (after what seemed like an eternity of burping, patting, pacing, rocking, and swaddling they each let an enormous toot and calmed right down--its okay to talk about baby farts, right? Grown-up ones not so much, but baby gas should be socially acceptable. They can't help it after all) . But even after I got them settled down they still kept spitting out their binkies and whimpering from the bassinet. Then at 5 o'clock Maggie climbed out of her crib and joined us. Which is super ironic because I just was giving my friend Angie advice on getting her kid to sleep longer and was bragging about how improved Maggie's sleep was. Well, apparently it's not improved.

Maggie was so awake that we decided not to fight her energy. Dan took her downstairs to watch Beauty and the Beast. But apparently he fell asleep and she took the opportunity to peruse her birthday presents with no parental interference (Happy Birthday to Maggie tomorrow). She woke me up by bringing me a puzzle that was supposed to be a surprise (during my 45 minutes of undisturbed sleep) and was pretty ticked that I wouldn't open it for her. Mean mom.

Maybe I should just give up and stop wanting sleep. That would make it easier. Then at least I wouldn't feel denied. I could just pretend I'm at EFY or an all-night party or something and stay up because I want to. Yeah. Maybe I'll try that.

But really, wouldn't you sacrifice your sleep and sanity for these guys? Dang. They're cute.

[Even when all three of them are losing it.]

I've had nights like that and I only have ONE little guy-- so I can't imagine what you're battling right now. Sometimes I felt the same way- if you just stopped wishing you could have sleep, maybe things would somehow be easier?! But nevertheless, I was always wishing for more! It gets better- promise! Cute pic- even if they are all losing it! lol

makes you appreciate the quiet times and the sleeping times, eh?

Well, yeah, pretending that you want to be awake can be helpful actually. Sometimes those middle of the night episodes can be so serene and peaceful (once the screaming stops of course). And sometimes really productive too.

oh and....maybe it is the age....the waking up at 5 am wide awake, scoty has been on that kick for like 2 weeks now! UGH! We shut his bedroom door, and Shon rigged the door handle so that he cant open it...then here is where we are mean parent, he screams and cries, and we let him, then he crawls back into bed and falls fast asleep....works everytime, we tune him out! haha...horrible horrible parents...I guess we can just go and buy a kid prrof thingy for the door handle!

Yeah, I had the same inspiration of choosing to not want the sleep... I found I was terribly unsuccessful because I am such a creature of habit, and I'm selfish. If you are more successful, I demand you share the secret! You do have adorable children!!!

Wow, Megan...I'll quit complaining about my ONE since you have 3 to deal with (oh, and don't you just love it when you curse yourself after telling someone else how your child does something?! They just have to prove you wrong, don't they?!). Good luck! Thanks for the advice nonetheless!

Crazy but what good memories you're creating...hopefully you're writing all this down so you can guilt trip your kids later in life. ;D

Oh and just keep at it with Mags, you know best for her and it'll all work out.

Keep smilin', sleep while you can and hang in there. All easy for me to say I know, but you are wonder woman so I know you can do it!

You know what I appreciate about your blog? If anyone has ever had children or have children we can read between the lines and man you have it tough but you have such a great way of presenting life that is fun and upbeat. You keep looking up. A day...a moment.....at a time......
