The Formula for Saving Money

My boys have more than doubled their birth weight. This may not seem like such a big deal to you, but I'm quite proud of it because they've gotten fat off the cream I produce for them. I never expected to come up against such opposition in the beginning over my desire to breast feed. Because the boys were preemies, the doctors and nurses at the special care nursery in the hospital were nervous about me nursing because they couldn't quantify the milk they were drinking. They often mentioned that formula would be better for them because there are special formulas that contain more calories. They encouraged me to supplement with formula. But I just plowed ahead with my breast feeding.

And it worked.

The boys have grown and thrived on the nutrition I've given them. How gratifying that is! But as I sit and think of the hours upon hours upon hours I've spent nursing these two kids I realize that I must be saving us a lot of money!

Each twin consumes about 24 oz. per day. With the current cost of formula, I've calculated that I'm saving us $8.21 per day, $57.46 per week, $249.66 per month, and $2995.92 per year. That adds up. With the money I'm saving us I could get 8 drinks as big as my head from Sonic Happy Hour every day, or buy a new pair of shoes every week, or hit the mall and buy some hot new clothes every month, or get a pimped out Mac desktop computer at the end of next year

Maybe I'll just have Dan add the funds into my allowance. I could have some real fun with this. I might even be able to hire some help around here!

I'll see what I can do, but it might take a big chunk of that $2995.92 to payoff their hospital bills.

or put it towards your dream vacation...or the new car... wow! I am so glad you are having success with all of it. I couldn't even breast-feed one baby! I tried for 2 mos with the 1st, 2 days with the 2nd, and totally didn't even try with the 3rd......sitting here jealous! miss you!

Hey Dan, cute babies.

On a completely unrelated note, what is your email address? I have some smart people questions for you.

This is the reason why I will be nursing #4 for a year. Formula is just so expensive!

Yes, good work, Megan! In spite of how very little I get done with a baby around, I always feel _productive_--in the truest sense of that word. And you can be proud of producing, and maintaining, such good baby boys! Does that mean you are ready to come visit us at some point? Or do the little darlings need to get a little bigger first?

YAY for breast feeding. Not only does it feed the babies better, but it gives you quiet time with them almost nose to - well, breast. And I nursed off thirty pounds every dang baby. Ask me what the deal maker was when we were trying to decide about getting a Murphy? Yep. And it worked - got the cutest kid on the planet and lost the hips. Oh, yeah!!
