Cheer Up, Mags!

After almost 3 years in this house, Maggie finally got up the courage to open the gate in our backyard and ask the neighbor kids to play. But the wee lass was greeted by a happy jumping puppy that scared the daylights out of her and then received the sad news that the neighbor kids couldn't even play.

It was more sadness than she could take. And as I carried the weeping girl inside I wondered what I could do to help her get over it.

And then I was really thankful for my childhood stuff hoarding--because I remembered that I'd been hiding away my favorite toys--Herself the Elf and friends--to present to Maggie at just the right opportunity. She was enchanted with them. She was fascinated by the adorable little fairy house, and dinner table, and slide and swing. She just kept saying "How cute!" over and over.

Keeping these toys and seeing Maggie play with them and love them just like I did when I was 4 was awesome. Totally worth it. I kind of wish that Toy Story 3 had ended like that-- with Andy's kids playing with Woody and Buzz. But I guess everybody can't be a childhood toy hoarder like I can. We're still a few years off from my bringing out my American Girl Dolls... that's gonna be fun.

P.S. I'll be honest, some of my childhood hoarding hasn't panned out so well. William just chucked my awesome {cabbage patch hide and seek board game} down the stairs damaging it beyond repair. So, yeah. Guess I didn't need to painstakingly care for that one all these years.

Poor Maggie but so fun that she loved the old toys! I know I have a box at my parents house of my favorites (Beauty and the Beast barbies! Cabbage Patch doll! Play food! etc.) but wish I'd saved more. And I, too, have an American Girl doll waiting to be played with (in several years!) I took insanely good care of that thing so I hope she loves it as much as I did. :)

That is awesome. And for the record, I think toy hoarding is awesome. My husband's parents did that, so when my kids play at their house they have all these classic toys that THEY'VE never otherwise seen, and it's fantastic. Glad Mags cheered up. You are brilliant to think of it!

Still have my strawberry shortcake dolls. In fact my Strawberry was sold before they all had pets, so she doesn't even have her cat :) Courtney had a lot of strawberry dolls I remember

A). Never give anything important to a boy.

B) Never give anything important to anybody under 4.

C) I think childhood hoarding is the best. And maggie just proved it.

How cute is that! I can only imagine how neat that must have been for you! Pretty much all of my toys were sold at yard sales so be grateful that even ONE worked out! :)
