Resolved.

This year I am resolved to get my health in order. I've fallen back into a lifestyle of day-long diet coke sipping and candy gobbling. And to be honest, I feel like crap. I know the fake sugar in the soda is messing with me. Not to mention the caffeine. But, stopping for a coke at the Hart's drive through has been a perk for me. I think, "No calories--just bubbly enjoyment!" but the truth is, its not healthy. My kids beg for sips and heaven knows they don't need it either.

So, 2011, this is the year for change. Since I have no self control and can't stop eating fun-size butterfingers until I hit the bottom of the bag, I won't even go down that road. No candy. No soda.

Just water for thirst and maybe an {occassional black bean brownie} when a sweet tooth hits. (I'm serious about the black bean brownies. They are really good.)

I have other goals in mind for the year, but I'll just focus on the two biggies: No soda. No candy. Until 2012. Wish me luck!

Boy oh boy, no sugar for a whole year! That is a major thing. I know, especially since I am a MAJOR sugar tooth queen. Good luck to you. Do not get down on yourself though if you ever fall off the wagon now and then. Allow yourself some loopholes. _Diedre Gray

I can relate - it's sugar that takes me down Crapola Boulevard. It isn't just the sweeteners and the caffeine in sodas. It's also the carbonation. Why do my taste buds appreciate things the rest of my body hates? As my father used to say, "I'm built backwards - my nose runs and my feet smell."

I've got to do the same, but I dread the headaches I will get when I go off Pepsi. And I don't even drink the diet variety! I fear it is slowly killing me. I justify it by running four or five miles every day, but it's time for the justification to stop!

Wow. Good for you. You're right, I know. I think sugar is probably better for you than the caffeine and the fake sugar, but all of it is crapola. And it's how it makes you feel that is the worst, so it's an excellent and admirable goal. I've heard that the first 3 weeks or so are the hardest, then after that the cravings are gone and the stuff isn't so tempting any more. Good luck!!!

Good for you! The sugar is too hard for me. I don't know what's wrong with me but I LOVE sugar. So if I can't have something sweet or yummy, even just a tiny bit I'm too sad.
But I'm with you on the soda for SURE. I did great and didn't drink any while I was pregnant, but I'm slipping back into it now, and I need to stop. It's just so yummy. But not worth it.

I do wish you luck. I'm in the same rut. It's an addiction, I think - you eat it, you want more. I bought snow peas to leave out on the counter so I'd grab those instead. I don't do the soda thing - too canny for that, long, long ago. Good luck to you. good luck to me, too.

LOL! Mine this year is no candy either! That is so funny! I am such a muncher, all day I munch. Candy is way too convienient... Apples will have to fill the void in 2011!

As for words... hmm... seek is good. I think I will pick that too, but in a different direction. I want to seek for real purpose for me. Seek for depth--- real depth... Who I am, what I need to be deing, finding real meaning. There is more to it--along the lines of Brother Bartons testimony today. He put into words what I have been questioning in my heart. I wish I could remember how he put it because it has been stuck in my heart without a way out with words! Seek--- I have a question, that I need to seek not only for the answer, but the question it's self.
That probably made no sense.

I think this is a fine goal! You'll do great! Think about the benefits on your teeth! You'll have pearly, pearly whites! And cavities MUST have less of a chance. Good luck!

Very admirable goal. I give up all such goals when preggers. I'm glad you revisited the one word resolution this year as I had forgotten about it and love the concept. I think I am sticking with enjoy. When I have a new baby I get so busy I often forget to enjoy. Add homeschooling on top of new baby . . .. Well, I'm going to try my best to not let the new baby magic slip past me as I struggle to keep up with the rest.

Good luck to us this year!
