Pie Party

Since Thanksgiving is all about filling yourself full of turkey, potatoes, stuffing, and other dinner delights, dessert doesn't bring nearly the enjoyment that it should. Pie kind of gets the shaft.

So, when my mom heard about a friend's Thanksgiving tradition that combated the pie problem, we just had to adopt the tradition for ourselves. From now on, the Sunday before Thanksgiving will be a Pie Party! We'll make, eat, and enjoy pie for dinner. Just pie. Delicious pie!

Thus, pie will have its day to shine and won't be lost amid the pools of gravy. Here's how our first pie party went down:

Paula Deen's sweet potato pie. I made it my dang self. Look! Meringue!

Paula Deen's Kentucky pie. The top burned and the inside didn't cook. I failed.

Pies. Family. Good things.

Sweet potato pie fans.

Sometimes I think Dan and Will look more alike than Coleman and Will do.

Two of my favorite people that I am oh so thankful for: Aunt Sue and Cousin Becca

Does it get cuter than this 87 year old Thanksgiving queen on her birthday? Nope.

Welcome to the family, pie festival. I think we're going to have a great future together.

Oh YEAH! We used to do this too, but somehow the tradition has faded. How remiss of us.

Good idea! I made 3 pies for Thanksgiving at the Mabey's and took home leftovers from 2 1/2. I froze the leftovers, though, so I can eat them later!

Your mom talked about this today, and I wanna try it, too. Pie deserves better than stuffed-in-at-the end. Did the sweet potato pie end up tasting great? I gotta know - it looks GREAT!
