I'll Miss You, Summer.

When I had to dig my kids coats out of the closet so we could head to the park, I realized something. Summer is over. It is. I was in denial all through September. But now the jig's up. Summer's totally over. I had a pretty good summer, too. I'm gonna miss it.

Here are some of the things I'm gonna miss most:

Bruschetta.

I ate it at least twice a week from July-September. My recipe: some diced garden tomatoes, a handful of fresh basil chopped up, minced garlic, a swirl of olive oil, salt, pepper,  then spoon it onto toasted artisan bread. Nothing better.

Peaches.

I have fallen head over heals for peaches this summer. I love chowing down on a big ripe fat one with the juice running down my arm. My mouth is watering thinking about it. I have got to plant a peach tree.

Swimming.

I will miss Summer afternoons spent at the splash park or in the backyard wading pool.  The kids absolutely love the water. I loved that it was free. And for me, nothing beats the heat like sitting around in some water. Love swimming.

I wish I'd known you were so - out of the loop. I'd have called you. I'd have said - read my blog and look at the pictures. I'd have said, kiss it good-bye and turn your face forward, quick, before you miss the autumn. Which is better and still has tomatoes. And basil. And oil. Plus fresh apples you can eat right off the tree. Or make cake or pies out of. And nights you can light tiny fires in the fireplace and dream of sleep. I'd have told you. If I'd known.

Umm. Please delete this one and the over=eager second one above it. Don't know how that happened, dang it.

I was the same way with summer--in TOTAL denial through all of September! That bruschetta looks so good I don't even have words for it. Knowing they are tomatoes from your garden is killing me. And I am the same way about peaches!!!! LOVE THEM!! The pics of your kids in the water are so cute. Summer is the BEST!

Summer is pretty good, but bring on the fall!

There's something to love in every season of the year, except winter - I'm still coming to terms with that. More importantly, there's something to love about every season of life. Celebrate them all.

I am so glad Summer is to an end. It is still to hot for me. We have never had our swamp cooler going this long. (As far as it not winterized.) I don't think we have even had a frost yet and we are a week from Abbie's birthday. Strange, Strange, Strange.
