Trololololo

My little brother posted this video on my facebook page this week. It's fascinating in that it's hilarious, disturbing, a little bit creepy, and inspiring at the same time. The man is just so happy to be sharing this talent that he has developed. And I say, bless him for it.

Growing up, I would try to "entertain" my family similarly by "singing" and "dancing" to my own compositions which my father termed "Piercing." He often begged me to stop by saying, "Megan, please don't do that, you are piercing to the very core."

At least now I know I have a kindred spirit on the internets. If only I could get this dang song out of my head...

I saw this several weeks ago. Here's a thing - you have to factor in the time - this is SO Lawrence Welk - look at the set and the hair - and the color. And it's Russian, I think - or something European, which adds the strange dimension of being from "the west" without being American. So I think this guy was probably playing right to his audience - and they probably thought he was the hottest thing ever and all the women ran to the stage door, hoping they could follow him home. He's too confident not to have known he was right in the groove. What we're really laughing at is that confidence - that he is the sexiest, more provocative and totally with-it thing out there. Like he didn't know times would change. Or that young women of a different continent would think he looked totally silly.

See, I have to see it in perspective. THings like skinny jeans? Totally stylish. But totally without aesthetic value, not classic - no grace. (Not a comment on you wearing them.) They are totally hip now. But later, they'll be totally camp. We're okay as long as we're only having fun with where we are. Once we take it totally seriously - we are this guy.

I'd heard of Trololololo before, but I had no idea until now just how awesome it is.

This is Russian hipness at its Cold War best. This is what would have happened to Elvis Presley if he had been born in Siberia.

When I saw this all I could think of was you and your wonderful singing voice. I'm so happy you found your singing twin.
