Harvesting

Last summer we were so busy harvesting these:
that we didn't get around to harvesting much from the yard. Sadly, a lot of things went to waste. So, Dan and I decided that we're really going to focus on our garden, cherry trees, and grape vines this summer and using what we grow.

So far, so good. Look what Maggie and I collected today:

And there's more where that came from. Now if I could just figure out what to do with them. I was thinking of freezing some for smoothies and eating a bunch of them fresh. But then what? Ideas?

I've never done this myself...but Michigan (my home state) is cherry land...and they have the BEST dried cherries. I hate cherries, but for some reason I like them all shriveled up. They are fantastic on salads or just as a little snack. It's like a cherry raisin. If you have a dehydrator, you could try it out.

Good luck! I hate pitting cherries, but love to eat them. Frozen are yummy snack in hot weather!

We freeze, dry, and syrup ours. They are great in muffins, ice cream, cake, smoothies, ice cream sauce, cobblers, salads, on top of granola, and by themselves dried.

If you get a good pitter it isn't so bad......

Eat them all and save the slippery spitty pits in a secret cup.

They'll be perfect for playing a prank on your husband one day when he's least expecting it.

PS. I'd reall love to email you and invite you to do a blogger to blogger interview, but I can't find your email address. Sad day for me...

Yes. Okay. This is the problem I have with growing things that require harvesting. YOu really sort of have to do something with what you get. Oh, and there's the planting and the weeding and the rest of that, too. I'm hoping that I get to check out of the world before the grocery stores disappear and we actually have to live in reality, myself. Don't eat too many of those too quickly, or you'll have other problems.

Wow! Good for you. I don't have any ideas (I'd just eat them fresh, but they'd be great in smoothies), but I'm just impressed you got that from your yard. :)
