I Heart Parties

It's been awhile since we've hosted a good party, so I was really aching to entertain. To solve that, we invited some couple friends (some related, some from high schoolsome from here, some from there) and had a good old fashioned Valentine's day party.

We started the evening with treats. Beth brought chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite!). I made pink vanilla/chocolate cupcakes with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting. I made these to die for brownies (thanks dear Marilyn for sharing your genius) and this (I think I could eat a bowl of that frosting) and some delish homemade oreos with strawberry buttercream frosting.

I had a blast decorating and planning and preparing. And we laughed and played and laughed some more.

The only bad thing was that it ended. I hate that.

**Update: Tia asked me to tell about the games we did. On our invitation we asked the couples to bring a Valentine's Day themed white elephant gift. The gifts were hilarious and diverse. There was the super popular 2 dvd set (a chick flick and a man flick), a set of 100 tea light candles (to really set the romance a blaze), 5 hand-made hilarioius rude valentines ("your teeth called, they said your breath stinks"), High School Musical fortune telling valentines, a big border-line-cute but mostly foul lead-based heart platter that none of us could even figure out what to do with (besides shoot at it--good idea Kati), a pregnancy test, another chick flick and box of chocolates, a sweet Valentine banner, and a sweet I Love You heart shaped frame. It was awesome cause the 80's couple in the frame were wearing sweet sun hats. The best part was that at the end of the night everybody walked away with something romantic that could really get the warm fuzzies going in their relationship.

After the gift exchange, we did a kind of Catch Phrase/Taboo game. I wrote up about 100 slips of paper with the names of famous couples, Valentine words, and other relationship/romantic words. Then the teams were divided and we took turns pulling out the papers and describing them to our teammates while they guessed. It was hilarious and a lot of fun. The winning team won Valentine Mix CD's Dan and I made (the losers won them too).

I CANNOT believe you did not invite MOTHERS. Or did you invite yours? Your mother and not ME? And all those treats? I sit on the floor and cover my head with ashes, or at least, I would if I had any.

Did you ever meet Ginger? Your mom knows her. I thought you might enjoy jumping over to see her family tradition - right up your alley - maybe in the future.

That spread is truly gorgeous. I hope Gin asked you if you had any raw carrots she could eat instead.
