I need one of these. Right now. Or maybe 50 of these.
"What are they?" you ask? Well, they are little pieces of heaven dipped in chocolate wrapped in a little cute red polka dotted package.
Here's what's magic about them: the first time I had one it tasted like chalk. No joke. I looked at my friend who'd given it to me and said, "Jory, Seriously? You spent money on this?" Later I developed a taste for them, no, more than a taste, an obsession, a dependency. When I lived in Hungary, I would buy 7 of them each Monday and hope that they actually made it through the week until the next Monday. Usually they were gone by Friday.
The problem: they are only found in Hungary. I hear they are spreading to other parts of Europe now. But that doesn't help me. I don't live in Vienna. I'm not shopping for a flat in Bulgaria. I live in Lehi. That's not in Europe. Not at all.
Here's another problem: They are made out of a substance called turo. Hungarians will tell you that turo is just cottage cheese. But it's not. It's maybe more like ricotta that's been drained and sugared up. I don't know.
All I know is, I want me a turo rudi or twelve. Just about now.

Oh! If I could get you some I would. Brian brings us home treasures from all around the world. After we've snarfed them all I call his boss and tell him to kick Brian out of the country again.......just kiddin'.....I think.......
Check the World Trade Market stores. I found my favorite treat from Australia there- they have all kinds of good things. There's a World Trade Market in the Sandy area
I dream about them too. When we were Hungary last summer, I had Greg take a picture of me eating my first Turo Rudi. They also had a new nutella flavor (yum). If I ever find them, I will split the spoils with you.
I was just whining to Bret the other day about missing turo in general too and now you had to go and make it worse by actually posting a picture of a turo rudi in its package. Doesn't it have the cutest name too?! You know what else I miss? Your delish sandwiches you would lovingly make for me almost everyday!
I know! Anita in Budapest sent me a package of them a few years ago. Oh my goodness. Sooooooo good! It was the highlight of the decade. Oh when oh when will I have a turo rudi again? I just don't know. I also miss their paprika -- the actual peppers -- and the cheese. I think it was trapiszta? Is that right? I dont remember anymore. Anyway. mmmmm What a sandwich that made for me. I loved it. mmmmmm I may not forgive you for posting this blog. It's bringing back so many flavors that I can't have. Thanks!
