How do You Know When You're in Love?

House hunting. We've been doing it online for the past 3 years. But now this is serious. I've told my principal I won't be back next year (which made me incredibly sad to say), word is slowly traveling around our ward that we're not going to be here much longer, and Dan has told his company that he wants to continue working at their Bluffdale office following his graduation in May. We gotta find us a house. So, Saturday we went looking. We found an area we liked and could afford in American Fork and we had our trusty realtor Dustin show us 4 houses. I don't know if it was just that 3 of them were pretty messed up or what... but we really liked one of them. A lot. Insomuch that we think we want it.
It's kind of at the top of our price range, but its huge. And under that shag carpet there are beautiful hardwood floor. It has a large yard and an updated kitchen. And ever since I've seen it I've been dreaming of restoring those floors and painting those walls and cooking in that kitchen and watching Maggie play in that backyard. I've even been thinking about how nice it would be to not have to haul laundry up and down basement stairs.

So, is it love? Or just relief that the house wasn't jacked up beyond repair? It does have a great feel. How did you know when you'd found "the one?"

For me, it's when I can't stop thinking about that one house... I seem to always pick the most exsensive ones too. Sounds like fun though. Good luck!

Just don't put all your eggs in one basket, because you might get your heart broken. I still think about this one house in Springville we looked at and this other one in Provo we looked at. Just remember, if this house isn't the "one", the next great one may be...this one looks awesome, though.

There is, strangely, a certain feel to some houses. You want to make sure you have an inspection as part of the deal - Cam and Lorri had one, and it actually made us feel even more confident about the house - they check for mold and water damage, things that buyers don't know how to look for. You want to make sure the furnace is all right, that there's nothing wrong in the basement or in the attic. Look carefully at the closets and the bathrooms - especially the walls, and the kitchen.

But I say, if you're dreaming about the house, take it seriously. Project yourself into the future, and see how the floorplan will work when the kids are older. Is your room between them and the front door? Is there a good fence? Is it a straight shot from the front door to the street? When you get up in the night will you be able to get to the kids easily?

I think it's the love that tells you something. Pay attention to the love.
And it sure does seem like the best things are always at the tip top of the price range, huh?
Keep us posted!

Megan...I have fallen in love with your house too! I might come join you. The kitchen is beautiful...oh I have always wanted lots of counters in the kitchen for lots of cookie baking, etc. You know it is the "one" when you can't stop thinking about it and you don't feel right about any other one. I love it though!!!

sounds like it. when you can imagine life there and it feels right it must, make an offer and if it pans out its meant to be! :o) We could have been happy in several places but this one is the one that panned out.

And have an amazing Realtor! They look out for you during all the craziness. :O)

Oh, it looks great to me too!

I think it's when you can't stop thinkin' about it....and you start to make plans with it. We have been looking for years too...and there have only ever been two that stuck for me and of course they were 1/4 over our budgeted price. Dumb realtors that show you what you can't have.
