Looking Forward to Carrying my Belly into the House

When I came in to work the other day, my dear friend Marlynn looked at me and said, "Megan, I feel like I need to tell you what giving birth to twins entails. I don't think you have any idea what you're in for." She proceeded to tell me about her sister who gave birth to twin girls. Here are the highlights:
  • "Her entire body got stretch marks. She was huge. I mean, by the end of the pregnancy her body was so full of fluids even her nose got big. She had this huge old man nose--like it wouldn't stop growing!"
  • "She was on bedrest for the last 2 months. All she could do was just lie there. She could hardly even move."
  • "But then, we threw her a baby shower so she got out of bed to come to it, and when her husband dropped her off, she got out of the truck, grabbed her stomach and carried it into the house. Yes, she had to carry her stomach." [For effect Marlynn hunched over like Quasimodo and wrapped her arms around the imaginary "pregnant belly" and walked like she was carrying an extremely heavy parcel.]

Thank you for the enlightenment Marlynn. I had no idea that's what I'm in for. But truthfully, the only thing at this point that scares me more than giving birth to twins is not giving birth to twins. So, I'm just praying hard and carrying on. Just don't be surprised if you see me carrying my stomach around.

You are a beautiful pregnant woman! Even if you have to carry your big belly into your house! (PS if that happens, make sure Dan gets a picture and sends it to me!) Love you Megs! You are going to do great!

Good luck, my friend...if anyone can do it and have fun while doing it, it's you! But try to avoid getting a big, old-man nose....that just doesn't sound very attractive :)

Have hope- my sister had twins, she went full term with 2- 7lb boys and was out and about until the day she delivered (without having to carry her belly).

seems to me there are some things just better left unsaid--like what you don't know can't hurt you!
I know women that have had twins that lived to tell the tale, without old man noses--you're going to be FINE!
And you're adorable.

There is such a thing as TMI! Why does everyone think they need to give you the worst case scenario? It's not like you can change anything. Sometimes being blissfully unaware is OK. However, I have known SEVERAL people who have given birth to twins and none of them have, or had, old man noses or a pole with a wheel to carry their belly. So...chin up, smile, you are doing great and will do great. One day at a time and don't sweat what you can't change. Mel:)

I love your perspective on things Megan....just the way you view the world and are able to put it into witty little phrases that make me laugh every time I visit your blog....THANK YOU! Oh and I have a friend who has twin boys and she loves it, if you go to my blog and click on Nick & Janine's link it will take you there and you will see hoe fun it will be. Granted they are her first kids.

P.S. Janine's belly never got that big...really so there is hope!

Yeah, it can and probably will be much better then that! Pretend you never heard that! I don't think you will have a blueberry moment like in Charley and Chocolate factory. My sister-in-law has twins. I'll I can say is that she wears size one jeans after giving birth to two 7lb.+ babies vaginally. And a girl in our ward just had twins she looked normal pregnant to me a week before she had them and she makes me look like a sumo. I know women with one baby that look like they are carrying 3 kids and swell up like balloons. I think it has more to do with how you carry babies then how many you carry. You did great with Mags you'll be similar this time.

Woa! So yes, I admit. I've been out of the blog loop for a few months. I had NO idea you were having twins! Congratulations. One of my beest friends just had twin girls about 3 months ago. 3 kids under 3. She's doing great. Delivery went great. You'll do awesome, delivery and all! I'm so excited for you! Ne felj.:)

Don't worry, it's really not that bad. I was never on bed rest, I worked at a day care until 2 days before I gave birth and I was very large but still able to be out and about with out even noticing. I did gain 90 pounds so yes I was VERY huge. You'll do great, it's not as hard as every one says.

So Megan, I don't know if you remember me (Jana Graham) but I found your blog through Tiff and I noticed you were having twins! Seriously, it's not as bad as some make it to be. You'll do great! Our Oldest girl was a little over two & 1/2 when our twin girls were born. Just think of your first x 2 Besides if you're having the same sex it's so much fun to dress them a like. Now our girls are 2 1/2 and we're expecting our fourth girl! I wish you all the luck!
